Do you still live by the Law?
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.
Matthew 22:37-39 New International Version
THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY’S VERSE…
Some things are just not very complicated, but we try to make them complicated by our own thinking. Living for Jesus can be boiled down to two very basic principles according to Jesus in the Bible:
1. Love God with everything I am and have.
2. Love others and treat them as I would like to be treated.
These are not too hard to understand now are they?
You ask: “What about the 10 Commandments, am I not supposed to keep them?”
My Reply: Well, that was the Old Testament, That was really for the children of Israel not us, before the new and better covenant that Jesus made for us with His Blood. But, Yes we are. Jesus said in Matthew 22:40: “On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” He was saying, if you keep these 2 simple new commandments I’ve given you, you will fulfill all of what is written in the “law” (the Law is really more than 10 Commandments, there are actually 613 of them). I don’t live by the Law, I live by the 2 commandments given me by Jesus. Which, by the way, satisfies ALL the requirements set forth in the “Ten Commandments” anyway! MY PRAYER…
Holy Father, Please accept the work of my hands, the words of my mouth, the moments of my rest, and the love of my heart as I worship You this day. I pray that it is pleasing and a sweet smelling aroma to You. Continue Father, to place Your love and compassion for people into my heart that I may become more like You every day. Help me to be more of You and less of me. Through your only Begotten Son, my Lord and Saviour Jesus, I pray.
Amen
